"Announced by all the trumpets of the sky,
Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the fields,
Seems nowhere to alight: the whited air
Hides hills and woods, the river, and the heaven,
And veils the farmhouse at the garden's end.
The sled and traveller stopped, the courier's feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, the housemates sit
Around the radiant fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of storm."
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Yes, I believe Emerson perfectly summed up how we've spent so much of our time lately. I've practically lost count, but I think we've had almost 10 snow days so far this school year, about half of them in January alone. Everyone loves a good 'ol snow day, but I'm beginning to think I should also include Shakespeare's quote about too much of a good thing! Whew! And winter's not even over yet!
Needless to say, our family has managed to accomplish all those typical wintry activities so dear to our hearts: building a snowman, sledding, drinking rich hot chocolate with marshmallows, etc. And it has been nice spending this time together (albeit cooped up in the house for most of it). Our days somehow slowed down, simmered with languid magic, and for the most part left us with a deep, satisfying sensation. A part of me will be sad to leave this lovely quiet time behind as reality returns to life.
A few more memories to preserve:
Ava's tall snowman that she swears she built all by herself! I promise I put gloves on my child, but I'm not sure what happened to them at this point!
Hudson's "Yo Gabba Gabba" drawings that I made for him inside his cardboard playhouse. He LOVES them, especially naming them and pointing to the appropriate character. So easy to please at this age!
P.S. I had an adorable photo of Hudson modeling his snow boots overtop his footie-pajamas, but it seems to be missing now, so I'll upload it later. Sweet little man!
